Who never wanted to change the course of a story?

The role of interactivity in screenwriting.

Storytelling, or -the art of telling a story- existed since the dawn of time.

Lascaux caves, ancient hieroglyphics or walls of our social networks, times change but the goals are very similar: communicate ideas, a legacy, a testimony.

We used to be the spectator of a story and listen without having the opportunity to act on thereof.

How many of us have been disappointed by the choice of a screenplay series that we loved, by the end of a book, a video game or a movie?[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]A narrative form increasingly popular is to include the story viewer, implicating him in the course of the narrative choices : we then speak of screenwriting multiple choice.

For the content creator, it?s all the structure who must be considered in order to leave logical choices to the audience, giving the opportunity to live her story with several approaches.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3409″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The idea has been exploited in the 80s with ?the book you are the hero?, which marked a generation.

As its name suggests, the drive was master of the narrative choices who were proposed, all leading to very different from each other passages in the novel.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3406″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The movie ?click? has exploited the idea by imagining a remote control that would change the course of things with a simple finger pressure.

More recently, Telltale product in the game ?The Walking Dead?, derivative of the series, which was a resounding success.

Here, the crucial choices are offered to players and will have a significant impact on the rest of the adventure.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3403″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQtai7HMbuQ”][vc_column_text]Tipex had successfully stand out with a campaign on youtube where the viewer will navigate to specific content based on their choices.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The recipe for a good story remains essentially the same : it must capture our imagination, liven the senses and stimulate our thinking.

Interactivity is the new form of immersive writing, offering to storytellers the possibility to create from a participatory, collaborative approach to spectator.

Created using Racontr, the webdocumentaire ?Moneyocracy? delve you into the heart of the financing of American politics : you are responsable to choose the right course of a political campaign; the opportunity to address a social issue in a fun way[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Yesterday, Montaigne wrote in his essays: ?The viewer is one who attends an action, as opposed to one who does.?

Today, the narrative interactivity does its infancy. Promised a future of size, it is the logical extension of storytelling, bringing the viewer to the rank of an active participant.
Use in many ways, it then possible to anticipate strategic marketing positioning depending on the choice of participants, personify the relationship between the work and the ratings, to be simply a new way of telling.
We created Racontr with this idea : give everyone the opportunity to be a craftsman of interactivity, to have a tool making him a pioneer of new forms of storytelling.

Reflection?s bonus around this emerging use of storytelling, the 5 keys to a successful web series by Nathalie Van Laethem, specialist marketing strategy :

  • The quality of the story will retain over the Internet episodes
  • Empathy, with characters that the audience (the target) will?identified
  • The authenticity and sincerity of speech, abandon any attempt at handling a user
  • Humor to share a good time, never take seriously
  • Create and orchestrate the buzz by activating the levers of influence on the target audience
